Less than a month after two TV journalists were shot and killed during a routine morning live shot near Roanoke, Virginia, it seems the public discussion about whether live shots are generally a good or bad idea has subsided.

Like the debate that follows almost any senseless shooting the consensus seems to be; life must go on.

Having said that, the Washington Post published a feature story this week spotlighting one Virginia morning news crew that goes out every morning – just as many of you do – to stand outside and report live for the sake of reporting live. The main point of the story is that the “live shot” is still a staple of TV news.
