Day 22: Coronavirus in CT

Here are the major news updates from today:

  • Access Health CT has extended the window for those uninsured to sign up for insurance. The previous deadline was April 2. The new deadline is April 17 and that coverage will begin May 1.
  • “Sema4, a Stamford-based company, said Monday it will analyze thousands of coronavirus tests, joining a cohort that includes Jackson Labs of Farmington and other private labs” to boost testing capacity, according to CT Public Radio.
  • “More than 700 inmates have been released since COVID-19 first struck” the state and 21 inmates have tested positive to date. CT Post has more.
  • Governor Lamont has launched a public service announcement campaign for the state’s “Stay Safe, Stay Home” policy. From the press release: “The campaign will feature multiple ads throughout the month of April and will air multiple times daily on participating member stations. All of the ads will also be shared on Governor Lamont’s social media channels. The first spot, ‘Opposite Month,’ was placed with stations today and is currently airing.”
  • Hartford Mayor Luke Bronin posted a statement on Twitter urging city residents to comply with Governor Lamont’s social distancing orders. It read, “[Gov. Lamont] has issued strong social distancing orders. Respect them. For those you love, and for others. Our health inspectors and police will be working to ensure compliance. But at the end of the day, this is about all of us working together — by staying apart.”
  • “The Connecticut Historical Society needs your help documenting life during the 2020 coronavirus pandemic.” The Hartford Courant has more.

  • Brewery, winery and other liquor permit holders may now home deliveries now available per the Governor’s executive order. Hartford Business Journal has more.

  • DEEP has released stricter guidelines in response to the high volume of visitors at state parks and trails. More information from DEEP here. UPDATE: Because people are finding it difficult to maintain effective social distancing measures at certain public parks, DEEP has been announcing closures on social media.

  • Gov. Lamont has asked the private sector to help supply the state with personal protective equipment (PPE). The state’s request for PPE can be found here.
