The Old Lyme Democratic Town Committee has filed a complaint with the State Elections Enforcement Commission claiming that the CT Examiner is acting as a de facto arm of the Republican Party in violation of campaign finance law.
The Democrat’s complaint against the online news site argues the Examiner regularly runs articles meant to be embarrassing to the Democrats and those editorial decisions are a financial benefit to Republicans in town. Democrats claim their Elections Commission complaint is not in retaliation for a Freedom of Information case filed by the Examiner.
