The president and CEO of Connecticut Public Media, Mark Contreras, has announced he will retire later this year. A search committee has been formed to find a replacement and Contreras will stay on until a successor is named.

Contreras joined Connecticut Public in 2019. In a report on his decision published by Connecticut Public, Contreras said the organization is financially sound despite the loss of federal funding suffered by all of public media – nationwide – last year. In 2024 Connecticut Public laid off four percent of its workforce to rein in growing expenses that were out-pacing revenues.

Contreras, who is 64, said the loss of federal funding was not a factor in his decision to retire.
