Alden Global Capital, the owner of Tribune Publishing, which includes the Hartford Courant, has made a bid to purchase Lee Enterprises. Lee owns 75 newspapers nationwide; one of the best known among them is the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Lee is a publicly traded company. Alden’s bid of $24 per share represents a premium over Lee’s current price.

In addition to the Post-Dispatch, Lee Enterprises owns the Arizona Daily Star, the Richmond Times-Dispatch and the Omaha World-Herald.
