As expected, the Federal Communications Commission voted(Thursday) to change ownership rules for U.S. television stations. The rules have long been in place to prevent any one station group from reaching more than 39% of the nation’s households.
The decision could have an effect on the pending merger between Nexstar(WTNH) and Tegna(Fox 61) here in Connecticut and future mergers involving any station ownership group.
The FCC decision is likely to be challenged in court on the grounds that the FCC does not have the authority to make this change without congressional approval.
