The company that publishes the New Britain Herald, Bristol Press, and Willimantic Chronicle has been sold to a Rhode Island-based publishing company.

The Hartford Business Journal broke the story of the transaction between Central Connecticut Communications and the Rhode Island Suburban Newspaper, the publisher of the Westerly Sun and other papers.

Michael Schroeder of Central Connecticut Communications bought the Herald and Bristol Press in January 2009 and The Chronicle in May 2017. In February Schroeder also sold the Block Island Times, a paper he had owned for several years, to the same Rhode Island company.
