25 Years and Counting

Happy Anniversary to Angela Dias of WTIC-am 1080 in Hartford who celebrates 25 years at the station this month. Angela is the morning news anchor but started out as a street reporter. She grew up in Rhode Island, and remembers that during her first week at work, Paul Douglas took her to the state capitol to introduce her around. When one of the legislators she met heard she was from Rhode Island he chuckled and said something along the lines of, “Oh, you’re from Rhode Island, the corruption state. Well, you won’t find any of that here….”

The late Walt Dibble hired her to replace Sue Morris, and eventually Angela’s duties shifted from reporting to anchoring. For a while she anchored morning drive news during the Bob Steele Show. During her 25 years at WTIC Angela got married and had two children – her husband is Norwich Bulletin photographer John Shishmanian.
