Usually in journalism it takes two to make a trend, but in this case one might be enough.
Multiple news outlets are reporting that CNN’s chief legal affairs correspondent Paula Reid has decided to leave the network when her contract expires later this summer and move to MS NOW.
Most of the reporting suggests her decision has to do with the expected merger between Paramount and Warner Discovery and the expected arrival of Bari Weiss – the editor in chief of CBS News – as a top CNN executive. We might call this a trend because there have been a number of departures and high profile firings at CBS under Weiss; Reid might be the first at CNN, but she is not the first in the Weiss era.
The trend is worth watching because if Reid does land at MS NOW she could be the first through a CNN to MS NOW pipeline that would strengthen the new network’s on-air product.
