Veteran sports broadcaster Bob Rumbold, currently of WTNH News 8, is retiring.
He began in radio in the late 1970s and transitioned to television at WWLP in Springfield, Massachusetts before moving next to Fox 61 in Hartford and eventually WTNH. His resume followed very closely the path of former News 8 anchor and Fox 61 sports director Rich Coppola. They worked together in Springfield, later in Hartford and New Haven.
If we use 1980 as his professional start date that’s 45 years behind the mic and the camera. Easily more than the age of most of the people he has been working with in the last twenty-five years or so.
Rumbold began in Connecticut at WKHT in Manchester in 1981 which had recently changed owners, format, and call letters. As WINF, it was a starting point for Pat Sheehan and Scott Gray and an ending point for former WTIC stars George Erlich and Art Johnson.
