Long time WABC New York anchor Bill Ritter made a surprise announcement Friday that he is stepping down from his role after being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease.
Ritter is 76 years old and has been with the station since 1998 and has been an anchor since 1999. Ritter told viewers he is staying with the station to cover the Alzheimer’s story.
In addition to his time at WABC, Ritter served for a time as a host of Good Morning America Sunday and as a correspondent for the ABC magazine show 20/20.
