The New Haven Independent welcomed two reporters last week.
Maya McFadden interned at the Independent last summer and is a 2019 graduate of the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts.
Emily Hayes graduated from Yale in 2016 and reported for the Charlottesville Tomorrow before returning to New Haven.
“They both love community reporting that seeks to connect people across divides and aims at high standards while embedding journalists in communities where they know people, have to answer to them, and develop a deeper understanding of issues over time,” says editor Paul Bass.
According to Bass, both journalists will be covering “general interest news stories, from zoning and land use to neighborhood community management team meetings, schools and criminal justice.”
