Former NPR host David Greene is suing Google alleging the company stole his voice to create an AI podcaster for its tool known as NotebookLM.

According to a story first reported by The Washington Post, Greene had never heard of the AI podcasting tool until a former colleague asked whether he had lent his voice to Google for the product. When he heard the similarity to his own voice he decided to take legal action.

Greene hosted All Things Considered before leaving NPR in 2021. Since then, he has been working in podcasting himself and last year took over the role of publisher of his hometown paper in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

Meanwhile, NPR political reporter and fill-in host Sarah McCammon has announced she is leaving the network. Writing on Substack, McCammon said she will announce her professional plans soon.

According to Poynter.org, nearly a dozen people on the staff of the CBS Evening News have elected to take buyouts in advance of what is expected to be a round of layoffs. Poynter suggests that the decisions to leave have been influenced by internal disagreement over the direction of the program under the new leadership of CBS Editor in Chief Bari Weiss.

Speaking of podcasts and new directions…(in a global sense or writ large as we sometimes like to say)…

…In advance of next month’s debut of the podcast Mostly Together, produced and hosted by former WFSB anchor Nicole Nalepa, the show’s website is live!
