Former WTNH Chief Capitol Correspondent Mark Davis died late Monday after a long fight with bladder cancer. He was 76. The cancer had recently spread and he chose to begin hospice care.
Davis first came to Connecticut as the host of an evening talk show on WTIC-AM in 1980. He began working part-time at WTNH and eventually left the radio station to work full time in television. He was with News 8 for thirty-six years starting on the same day as photographer Joe Sfefrazza who he worked with the entire time. Davis retired in 2020.
Over the years Davis served as an anchor and a reporter. He was one of several Connecticut television reporters who became a fixture in Connecticut living rooms during the administration of Governor Lowell Weicker when a debate over imposition of the state income tax dominated the news for nearly an entire year.
In 2024 he was named to the Connecticut Broadcasters Association Hall of Fame and WTNH produced a video tribute to mark the occasion.
He is survived by his wife Betsy. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in May.
Mark Davis’s death comes just three months after the death of former NBC Connecticut political reporter Tom Monahan; friends and competitors whose careers over-lapped.
We offer our condolences to Mark’s wife Betsy, his family and friends, and his former colleagues at News 8.
