Former New England Cable News(NECN) reporter and long-time CNN reporter/anchor Suzanne Malveaux will not be covering Washington, D.C. politics – and specifically the White House – for as long as Karine Jean-Pierre is serving as White House press secretary. It is a decision made to avoid even the appearance of a conflict of interest.

Malveaux and Jean-Pierre are partners and live with their daughter in Washington, D.C. Malveaux is a national correspondent for CNN, a beat that often involves coverage of national politics.

CNN announced the decision this week, a few days after Connecticut native Chris Licht took over as CNN president. You will remember the top job at CNN opened up after Jeff Zucker was fired over his management of the relationship between former CNN anchor Chris Cuomo and his brother Andrew, the former governor of New York.

Jean-Pierre takes over as White House press secretary Friday as Greenwich High graduateĀ Jen Psaki departs for an expected on-air role at MSNBC.
