Starting next week, NBC Connecticut will kick off its morning news at 4:30 am – a half hour earlier than its current start time.  This marks the second station in the Hartford/New Haven television market to move up to 4:30 am;  Fox61 was the first.

The broadcast, which will be called “Hot Coffee”, will feature current morning co-anchor Brad Drazen and meteorologist Bob Maxon. The rest of the morning schedule remains the same with Brad and Yvonne Nava co-anchoring from 5am – 7am and handling cut-ins throughtout the Today Show. Yvonne is likely to handle the station’s 11 am newscast on a solo basis.

  1. interesting move! I hope this new show is really informal because Bob and Brad have great chemistry. It would be cool if they involve the production staff and assignment editor/producer into the show as well…

I’m picturing it to have a ‘Way to Early’ w. Willie Geist on MSNBC feel, but with more behind the scenes action.

  2. I enjoyed watching the national news program that aired at 430 AM – it was actaully news worthy and interesting to watch while on the treadmill… I will now find another program to watch at that hour. There is only some much going on and worth talking about in CT and I think we get enough of it already. It reminds me of all the local newspapers I revieve in the mail each week – they all say the same thing and eventually begin to repeat themselves… I don’t see this new “Hot Coffee” program lasting very long – not enough to discuss and look forward to the return of the national news program.
