Former Connecticut Associated Press reporter Matt Apuzzo, now the international investigations editor for the New York Times, is one of the bylined writers on a major story out this weekend on the history of Haiti’s debt to France.

If you have ever wondered how a country in such a beautiful part of the world could be so impoverished, this is the beginning of that story. And in today’s world, it is worth considering whether France now owes a debt to Haiti.

Roger Angell, described by many as America’s best baseball writer, died Friday at age 101. He worked primarily at The New Yorker, where his mother was an editor and his step-father, E.B. White was a contributor. More: Remembering Roger Angell, by David Remnick.

Former baseball commissioner Fay Vincent has been reminiscing recently about New Haven and published an article this weekend in the Hearst papers.
